We left Israel for the first time since our initial arrival to spend Christmas week in the French Alps, skiing at Val d’Isere. It was quite a unique ski experience for all of us as
Winter has definitely settled in. Temperatures are generally in the mid 60s during the day, although it will occasionally climb into the mid-to-upper 70s. We also now experience some rain a few times per week. It actually feels nice to have a break from the heat and wear long pants and a fleece or sweater.
In late November we went back up north to spend the weekend at and around the Sea of Galilee. The kids didn’t have school that Friday, so we got an early start. About half way there (just outside of Haifa) was an excellent adventure center with VERY high rock walls, climbing structures, zip lines, etc.
Bubbe and Zayde arrive from Boston for a three week visit! We were all very happy to see them, especially the kids! It had been almost 35 years since their last (and only) trip to Israel.
Halloween is a big deal at the American International School in Israel. There are several parent committees that work hard together in the weeks leading up to October 31st. Even with all the build-up and anticipation, it did not disappoint.
This weekend we had the opportunity to learn more about life on a kibbutz. While exploring the Beit Shean Valley, we slept on a kibbutz and ate several of our meals there as well. There are only a few traditional kibbutzim left in Israel operating as true socialist communities and we had the opportunity to spend time on two of them.
Lori, Steve and Jessica arrive from Boston! The kids were very excited to see them and to show them around.
We headed back up north this weekend to explore the Central and Western Galilee. It included one of the biggest thrills of the trip so far!
This past weekend we enjoyed a fun and educational three days up north. It was interesting for us to experience such a drastic change in climate and scenery over a short two hour drive.
